Having had Shelties for over 30 years, it goes without saying that along the way there have been occurrences that were unusual and hard to detect.  The world of the healthy dog has become more than one of just shots, and incidental health problems.  Our pets have become so important to the point that their health and care is uppermost in our minds.

A few years ago I ran into a situation where something was going on with one of my dogs and no one seemed to be able to detect the problem.  After a year of going back and forth among several veterinarians, I finally insisted that I was not going to continue this routine and something had to be done.  This is when I was referred to Dr. David Edinger at Surgical Options (its former name).  He gave him a complete physical – more thorough than I had ever seen before – he took x-rays (none had been done before although I had asked and was told an x-ray would not show anything, i.e. a tumor).  A physical check indicated a tumor and x-rays confirmed it.

Within a couple of days he was operated on – it appeared they had gotten it all and pathology confirmed it – however, as with all cancers, no one can truly predict that it will not come back possibly even in another area.  Two years later I found my little friend asleep and on his way to the Rainbow Bridge – I never went further to find out the cause – all I knew was that he had a wonderful additional two years of quality life and was playing and romping with my other Shelties earlier that day.

This is not my only experience with the expertise of Dr. Edinger.  He is a caring and dedicated specialist in the field of dogs and cats – his clinic is state-of-the art – I should say “state-of-the-heart” because he and his staff are dedicated and caring individuals.
